Food Allergy or Intolerance

  • Meeting nutritional requirements while restricting for allergies

  • Chemical elimination diets

  • FODMAPS

Food intolerance can be responsible for a large range of symptoms including migraines, hives, IBS (irritable bowel syndrome) insomnia, anxiety, bowel problems and bloating. There are various types of food intolerance, chemical (amines, salicylate or glutamate) or short chain carbohydrate (FODMAPS) causing peoples symptoms. The symptoms can be overlapping and hard to recognise without a good understanding of the types of symptoms and the chemicals contained within each food. Jane has learned from the experts RPAH allergy unit in Sydney on how to conduct the Elimination Diet.

Jane is very experienced in educating clients on the FODMAPS diet for management of bloating and other gut symptoms. Like the elimination diet, the FODMAPS diet is designed to be temporary and requires challenging at the end of the trial. The challenge involves trailing each potential FODMAP to ensure you have a better understanding of the effect each has on your body.

Jane also supports people interpret results and make dietary changes after using the latest technology in microbiota / microbiome testing - Microba - from the University of Queensland.

Plant Based Diets

Plant based and Vegan diets have many health benefits including reducing chronic illness if planned correctly. As Australian soils are deficient in some minerals (iodine and selenium), is it recommended to see a dietitian when undertaking diets that restrict certain foods to ensure you meet your requirements. Jane enjoys implementing easy strategies to ensure you survive and thrive on a plant based diet.

This includes:

  • Education about getting enough of the right kind of amino acids, minerals and vitamins.

  • Additional nutrients not readily available in common plant foods – omega 3 long chain fatty acids as well as the addition of vitamins created in fermented foods.

  • Meal plans, recipes and cooking techniques.
